Overview:
Welcome to the starting point of the Expedition Vanguard Program! The Selection Weekend is your first step into an unforgettable journey of leadership, personal growth, and outdoor adventure. Designed for high school-aged young men and women, this immersive weekend event is where it all begins, setting the stage for what’s to come in the Expedition Vanguard experience. Held in the rugged and scenic Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, this weekend will challenge participants with a series of team-building exercises, outdoor skills training, and leadership activities.
What to Expect:
Adventure Race-Themed Challenges: Participants will tackle a series of rotating stations that test their physical endurance, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork. From fire starting and water purification to orienteering and shelter building, each challenge is crafted to simulate real-world expedition scenarios and prepare participants for the full Expedition Vanguard experience.
Leadership and Survival Skills Training: Throughout the weekend, participants will receive hands-on training in essential survival skills and leadership principles. These sessions will help them develop the capabilities needed to excel in challenging outdoor environments.
Team Building and Reflection: Participants will work closely in small teams, engaging in activities that foster collaboration, communication, and mutual support. Evening campfires and group discussions provide a reflective space to process the day’s lessons and experiences.
Fitness Challenges: Each morning kicks off with a fitness challenge designed to assess physical endurance and prepare participants for the physical demands of the expedition.

Note: All necessary equipment and meals will be provided throughout the weekend. This is a rain-or-shine event, so participants should come prepared for all weather conditions.
COST:
$100 per selection weekend participant
Breakdown: $25 equipment rentals, $25 Candidate Shirt, $50 food. It’s worth it!!!
